GitHub will not notify the user when you block them. If you want to avoid contributing to the same project as someone you've blocked, you can choose to display a warning on any repositories with prior contributions from a blocked user. For more information, see [Blocking a user in your account settings](#blocking-a-user-in-your-account-settings). You may still see the activity of blocked users in shared spaces and blocked users can delete their existing content.\n\n> \\[!TIP]\n> If you're blocking a user because of a heated conversation, consider locking the conversation so only collaborators can comment. For more information, see [Locking conversations](/en/communities/moderating-comments-and-conversations/locking-conversations).\n\nWhen you block a user:\n\n* The user stops following you\n* The user stops watching and unpins your repositories\n* The user's stars and issue assignments are removed from your repositories\n* The user's votes on discussions or comments in your repositories are deleted\n* The user is removed as a collaborator on your repositories\n* The user's contributions to your repositories are no longer counted as contributions for them\n* Your contributions to the blocked user's repositories are no longer counted as contributions for you\n* You are removed as a collaborator on their repositories\n* Their sponsorship of you is canceled\n* Any pending repository or account successor invitations to or from the blocked user are canceled\n* The user is removed as a collaborator from all the projects owned by you\n* You are removed as a collaborator from all the projects owned by the user\n* The user's comments on repository security advisories are hidden\n\nAfter you've blocked a user, they cannot:\n\n* Send you any notifications, including by [@mentioning](/en/get-started/writing-on-github/getting-started-with-writing-and-formatting-on-github/basic-writing-and-formatting-syntax#mentioning-people-and-teams) your username\n* Comment on or edit issues or pull requests that you've created\n* React to your comments on issues, pull requests, and commits\n* Follow you or see your content in their activity feed\n* Assign you to issues or pull requests\n* Invite you as a collaborator on their repositories\n* Invite you as a collaborator on a security advisory\n* Cross-reference your repositories in comments\n* Fork, watch, pin, or star your repositories\n* Sponsor you\n* Add you as a collaborator on their projects\n* Make changes to your public projects\n\nIn repositories you own, blocked users also cannot:\n\n* Open issues\n* Send, close, or merge pull requests\n* Comment on issues, pull requests, discussions, or commits\n* Comment on repository security advisories\n* Add or edit wiki pages\n\nBlocking a user from a comment doesn't delete the original issue, pull request, discussion, or security advisory.\n\n## Blocking a user in an issue, pull request, discussion, or repository security advisory\n\nYou must own the repository to block a user from its content.\n\n1. Navigate to the issue, pull request, discussion, or repository security advisory that contains the description or comment whose author you would like to block.\n2. In the upper-right corner of the description or comment whose author you would like to block, click <svg version=\"1.1\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" viewBox=\"0 0 16 16\" class=\"octicon octicon-kebab-horizontal\" aria-label=\"Show options\" role=\"img\"><path d=\"M8 9a1.5 1.5 0 1 0 0-3 1.5 1.5 0 0 0 0 3ZM1.5 9a1.5 1.5 0 1 0 0-3 1.5 1.5 0 0 0 0 3Zm13 0a1.5 1.5 0 1 0 0-3 1.5 1.5 0 0 0 0 3Z\"></path></svg>, then click **Block user**.\n3. Optionally, select **Close all open issues, pull requests, and discussions opened by this user**.\n4. Optionally, add a note to describe why you blocked the user.
