# Setting your default region for GitHub Codespaces You can set your default region in the GitHub Codespaces profile settings page to personalize where your data is held. You can manually select the region that your codespaces will be created in, allowing you to meet stringent security and compliance requirements. By default, your region is set automatically, based on your location. ## Setting your default region 1. In the upper-right corner of any page on GitHub, click your profile picture, then click ** Settings**. 2. In the sidebar, under "Code, planning, and automation", click ** Codespaces**. 3. Under "Region", select the setting you want: **Set automatically** or **Set manually**. 4.
